Mark is the son of David Stevens and Norma Thomas-Stevens. Mark was born and raised in southern California along with his older brother and two sisters. In 1996, Mark moved home to Laguna Pueblo where he has resided since.
Mark is an enrolled tribal member of Laguna Pueblo, one of 19 Pueblos in the state of New Mexico. Mark is 1/2 Laguna (from his mother's side) and is 1/2 Italian (from his father's side). Mark's mother and maternal grandparents all came from Laguna Pueblo, while his father and paternal grandparents came from Canton, Ohio.
In 2006, Mark took a basic silversmithing class in Santa Fe, NM. After that he was taught by local silversmiths around Laguna Pueblo and has been refining his technique since. Mark participates in numerous art shows across the country including the Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Indian Market, Eiteljorg Indian Market and the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian Art show in Washington D.C. and New York City.
Mark is married to Shannon Carr-Stevens (Laguna/Hopi) and they have one son, Marcus Tyler who loves drumming, playing guitar and hockey. In between creating his own jewelry, Mark enthusiastically supports his wife Shannon's jewelry and photography businesses (www.twopueblomaidens.com).

"Ha-ta-weh" in the Laguna language means "corn pollen." This is the name Mark's Laguna grandfather "Kai-di-yeh" gave him when he was just a boy.
